Sharon Washington
Sharon Washington has been a professional actress for over 25 years. She made her Broadway debut in The Scottsboro Boys, the last collaboration of the legendary team of Kander & Ebb, in the role she originated Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater. She most recently appeared Off-Broadway at the Vineyard in the world-premiere of Dot by Tony Award nominee Colman Domingo.
Other Off-Broadway credits include While I Yet Live by Tony Award winner Billy Porter at Primary Stages; Luce by JC Lee at Lincoln Center Theater (LCT3) and Wild With Happy also by Colman Domingo at the Public Theater for which she received a Lucille Lortel Award nomination and an Audelco Award.
She has played Lady Anne to Denzel Washington’s Richard III, Valeria to Christopher Walken’s Coriolanus, as well as multiple characters in the award-winning adaptation of Caucasian Chalk Circle directed by George C. Wolfe, all at the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater. The Overwhelming directed by Max Stafford Clark (Roundabout Theater); Alan Ayckbourn’s House and Garden; The Radical Mystique written and directed by Arthur Laurents, and Seeking the Genesis (Manhattan Theatre Club).
Regionally Sharon appeared in the world premiere of Dot at Actors Theatre of Louisville; The Scottsboro Boys and Intimate Apparel (Guthrie Theater); Merry Wives of Windsor and King Lear (Denver Center); Jar The Floor (Seattle Rep); String of Pearls (City Theatre); Diggin’ Eleven (Hartford Stage); The Story and Ceremonies In Dark Old Men (Long Wharf Theatre); Man and Superman (Center Stage); Miss Evers’ Boys (Philadelphia Theatre Company); Twelfth Night (Arena Stage); Romeo & Juliet (NJ Shakespeare Festival); and the original production of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson at Yale Rep directed by Lloyd Richards.
She has also spent several wonderful seasons working on new plays at the Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference and the Sundance Theater Lab. Sharon will be joining the acting company of the Sundance Lab again this coming May 2016 for its inaugural Africa Lab in Marrakech, Morocco. She will be making her debut as a writer/performer in the Fall of 2016 with the world-premiere of her solo play, Feeding the Dragon, at City Theatre in Pittsburgh.
Sharon’s most recent film appearance was playing opposite Danny DeVito in the Todd Solondz film Weiner Dog (Spring 2016 release). Other film and television credits include roles in Gotham, Blue Bloods, The Blacklist, Golden Boy, White Collar, Taking Chance, Royal Pains, Damages, Mistress America, Torn, The Bourne Legacy, Michael Clayton, Rocksteady, Freedomland, The School of Rock, Half Nelson, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Malcolm X, Die Hard With A Vengeance, Law & Order, Law & Order: CI, Law & Order: SVU and the webseries Hustling for which she received a 2015 Indie Series Award for Best Supporting Actress – Drama. She has appeared in numerous television and radio commercials both on-camera and voice-over. She is an accomplished audiobook narrator as well as narrator of the PBS/NOVA documentary Vaccines: Calling the Shots among others.
Sharon received her MFA from the Yale School of Drama and a BA from Dartmouth College. She is a born and raised New York City native and a graduate of The Dalton School.
