At City Theatre, we pride ourselves on being cutting-edge institution who brings new plays and ideas to our stages. We pride ourselves on producing work that challenges our artists and audiencesHowever, in March 2020, we found ourselves with a new challenge. For the first time ever, every theater across the country closed its doors and had their lights go dark. During this difficult time, many of our colleagues have had to cancel performances for the remainder of 2020  and beyondHoweverwe couldn’t quite bring ourselves to step down from this challenge, no matter how daunting. The New York Times once hailed City Theatre as “Pittsburgh’s most innovative theater.” Well, this crisis demands innovation.

FAQs

We know that you will have questions about how this works. We’re happy to provide answers! We’ve anticipated a few, which are below, and we will continue to update these FAQs on our website. If you are a current ticket-holder, we will continue to share updates specifically for you — or, feel free to call us at 412-431-2489.
What happens to my subscription?
We understand that our subscribers needs have changed over the past year. In order to best accommodate everyone, we have moved your subscription money on to your account for you to use as you please for any City Theatre production.

How do I use the money on my account?
When you decided to attend a performance, simply order your tickets online or call our box office where JoelAbigail, or one of our Box Office Associates will transfer your money into tickets. It’s a “pick your own adventure” season where YOU decide when and what to consume.

Will I still have my seats when the theater reopens?
Yes! While the upcoming season is likely to make traditional seating difficult, we are guaranteeing you that your seats are not lost and you will get them back when we return to “normal operations.

What if I don’t want to come back until there’s a vaccine or the theater reopens for indoor performances?
That’s fine too! Your money will roll over into next season if it’s not all used this performance year.
I didn’t get a chance to renew my subscription this year. Will I lose my seats?
Nope! We understand that not everyone was able to renew their subscription before the theater closed in March. As a result, we are holding everyone’s seats until next renewal season. When we are able to announce the 2021-22 season, you will receive a renewal form with your same package and seats as you had in 2019-20.
