About the Festival:
City Theatre’s annual Young Playwrights Contest encourages 7-12th grade Western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia students to make their voices heard by writing and submitting original one- act plays. The Young Playwrights Festival, in its 26th year, highlights five middle school and high school aged one-act plays. Student playwrights develop their scripts in collaboration with professional theater artists- a director, dramaturg, designers, and actors. Students from the region are invited to attend the eight (8) daytime performances, and family and friends are encouraged to attend the weekend public performances, all held in the Lillie Theatre.
